Bengaluru January 10, 2016: “Hindu samskriti or  Bharatiya Samskriti; we have this as our  identity. Bharath is not just a name of some part or piece of land. The land keeps increasing decresing based on how it is being treated. The nature of the society is the Samskriti. This is the Samskriti which binds us all together, thus is our identity and that is the reason it’s is known as  Hindu Rashtra. Not many know and not many believe but it is universally accepted. We all are Hindus as we have accepted the very nature of the Samskriti” said RSS Sarasanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat.

Speaking on the occasion, eminent scientist and former ISRO Chairman Dr K Radhakrishnan said “Science and Technology should address complex and larger issues of relevance with a focus in purpose. It is significant to ensure convergence and linkages between all players of value chain so that the benefits reach the ultimate end user in the society. Effective management with emerging technologies, worldwide, will require new directions and innovative solutions”

“Let me conclude with a message to young generation. It is well stated that our human capital especially demographic dividend, holds the key to leap forward or even to leap-frog or to make impossible in to possible. “Knowing” and “Doing” are important. But “Being” what you are makes a difference in life. Our conviction about our life and its purpose and our value system, would help us to perform our duty to this motherland and the humanity as nishkama karma. Each one of us can make a difference for the country and each one of us should strive to leave a legacy when you leave this world” concluded Dr K Radhakrishnan.

Summary of Speech by Mohan Bhagwat:

“Let me start my speech from the last sentences made by the Chief Guest of today’s  event Dr. K Radhakrishnan. How do we take our country’s demographic dividend forward? After the next 20 years our country will be a  youth driven  nation. Of all the countries in the world we as a country will be considered as the nation with highest youth population. What should be the direction for the youth of this nation? To know this we need to understand our values first. We have to stand by the values of the nation. IT is only then we will be able to perform a Nishkaama karma for the betterment of the country. There could be a good number of people who think as to what should be done.  There are equally same number of people who speak about it also but the most important question would be who is going to work. It is only when the peoplw who work towards it are lessening in number and people speaking is increasing we would not see the change. Mere speaking words would not work”.

We all know that America was founded by Columbus. Columbus when arrived on the lands of America there were many to already receive him. Of them  were the native citizens, merchants and a  bouddh bhiskshu too! As the rest of the world did not know America, Columbus gets the fame and credit for  discovering the piece of land. Naturally Columbus was not a man of high stature as he was considered a thief. Whenever he robbed and his parent land also knew about it, Columbus shared with the rulers a part of what he earned. The  country where he resided gave him a permission letter for the misdeeds he was upto the part of wealth gained back to the rulers of the country. When Columbus reached back to his home land the King of the country decided to appreciate him for the wonderful task of discovering a new piece of land. So a gathering was scheduled and it was said that Columbus would be felicitated after the lunch. As the jealousy was in minds of the people who knew what Columbus was in his character the people who could not stand it started disliking the kings decision of felicitating him. The king then called everybody and placed an egg on the table and asked the people around to make the egg stand by itself. It was obvious that it was not possible and so people started giving out reasons about the fact that egg cannot be made to stand by itself due to the nature of it. However when Columbus was asked to do the same, he  broke the egg and made it stand on the table. The king appreciated it and the people around cried foul as this was something even a child could. The king opined then that though it is not a big thing, nobody even tried that out and Columbus deserves credit as he had done it.

He who “does” gets the credit. He is the one who enjoys sampatti, sukha. For the development of the country, we have to make sure we have the right set of people who can work and we enable people to get that major task done. This is the work of Sangha. For the past 90 years we have been doing it. Lot of people discuss, debate in their own ways. But what is the Truth eventually?  RSS job is to make Bharath  a Parama vaibhava sampanna desh. After the country is opulent and prosperous, Sangh need not work further. This is because once we achieve the Parama Vaibhava Sampanna position all other factors are a part of it and will be inherently taken care of.

Dr. Hegdewar, the founder of the RSS was active in all possible ways and all available initiatives then in the country. As a student he completed his education with flying colours, as a son of the soil he was also involved in releasing us from the clutches of the British. Though there were a good number of ideologies which were in vogue then, Dr Hedgewar was involved in all of them as the ultimate goal was to attain freedom. Naturally he was in close touch with many in the field of freedom struggle. There was honesty residing in the minds of people who were working towards the freedom struggle. Hedgewar had always discussions with the then leaders of the fore – Lokamanya Tilak, Gandhi, Savarkar, Bose, Madan Mohan Malaviya or even revolutionaries like Rajguru, Sukhdev, Bhagat Singh. All of them were striving towards the single motto of freedom for the nation. From the times of Shakas till the British, there have been a handful of people who have been invading us. The country which was called a golden bird (Sone ki chidiya), a country which was prosperous was attacked

We were valorous then too. Just to remind ourselves we had participated in the two world wars. In such a case how could mere few people who could come and rule over us everytime? Without correcting our problems we cannot change the fortunes for the country. Dr. Hedgewar felt if everyone is engaged in the big task of freedom struggle one needs to patiently work towards organizing the society, the result of which is Rashtriya Swayamsevaka Sangh. It was a diverse country, and he observed that the values were missing. The diversities were in us from times immemorial those being the diversities in Languages, Regions, Caste subcaste etc. Yet we are called as one nation and the feel of one nation is also not a newly born term. We have been a single united nation from our Vedic periods. In our Vedas our Country is defined as the land which is southwards of the Himalayas. In the Puranas we have a shloka which goes this way, Uttraram yat Samudrasya Himadreschaiva Dakshinam Varsham tat bharatam naama Bharati yatra santatihi.

The diversities existing  then also. Atharvana Veda has hymns which prove that we had such diversities. With all such diversities it is the Culture (Samskriti) which we have as a unifying force. Our Honarable President had recently been to Andhra to inaugurate a Vedic school. He opined that the Vedas have always been a unifying strength of the Sanathana Culture. So we have to secure it and appreciate it as it is is a big force of today’s India. It is not just sholkas in it. In all other parts of the world it is said that ‘Uniforminty is must for unity ?.’ We do not belive or even follow it. Uniformity in not compulsory for unity. One must be able to find unity in diversities available’. So respect, appreciate, follow, celebrate all such diversities. But let us remember that all these emerge from the one feel of unity and we are to be aligned to the same.

We are all equal should be our way of working. ‘All is one’ is the first value amongst us. One has become all, and that is the Unity in Diversity. Fighting amongst ourselves would not work to attain the unity. It works by samanvay. Do not consider nature as something you own. Respect the nature let us be courteous. As an example if there is a need to cut off one tree plan ten before you would do it.

This is called Hindu Samskriti or  Bharatiya Samskriti. We have this as our  identity. Bharath is not just a name of some part / piece of land. The land keeps increasing decreasing based on how it is being treated. The nature of the society is the Samskriti. This is the Samskriti which binds us all together, thus is our identity and that is the reason it’s is known as  hindu rashtra. Not many know and not many believe but it is universally accepted. We all are Hindus as we have accepted the very nature of the Samskriti. This culture does not do a diffentiation in ways of praying to God or even in the name of the religion, caste subcaste, language.

Organize those Hindus  so that they work towards the county’s progress. Groom them with Samskars so that we see an organized society. It is about the changing our habits. How will will this happen?

In case one would want to follow a book, he will have to read it thoroughly and start practicing the same. The character has to be built. So this habit has to be practiced by all. RSS is working in the same direction. Take out one hour from your day. What do you get from it? Nothing!!! One might not get a “Thank you” also for it. It is the body, soul and intellect which would need to be trained.

Let us take this Shrung ghosh shibir as an example. All countries certainly have such a thing. There are some modifications every where. Sangeet Swar, vadya is not meant for some country. How to bring it to way that we use it for a better purpose. We have it as our parampara. Rana sangeeth was there in our past /history. We have added our Indian Soul in it. We have called Saxophone as Naganga  Clarionet as SwaradEuphonium as Gomukha and Trumpet as Turya. For us those names remain and we add our parampara to it. This is because it our values. There are times when military has used our tunes in the past. We have our own Rana sangeeth

When we speak about the ISRO, it is the patriotism and confidence level of the people who work with in it. The main motto would be to make everyone go with us. That is the quality of an efficient Leader. The people who work would not even bother about Siddi. Asiddi. We would need a Saatvik Kaaryakarta. This methodology is in the RSS.

“For any programmes we have we invite you all, but let us do a bit more in devoting some time to do something for the nation. Let us become responsible and attain that competence and skill which is utmost needed for the progress of the country. RSS is the way which teaches this competence and skill. The Sangh always feels that we are all unitedly working for the progress of the country. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is mailnly for men. For the momen we have the Rashtriya Sevika Samiti in which the ladies can actively participate and contribute to the progress of the county.  It is not that we have gathered here as audience, but let us become a swayamsevak, and attain the skill for nation building. As per your time likes reform it” concluded Mohan Bhagwat.

Earlier; spectacular  Ghosh Pradarshan  was performed by 2169 Shrung Ghosh vadaks from different states of India playing few newly introduced tunes and newly introduced Shrung Ghosh (Brass Band) instruments to the RSS Ghosh Pathak (Band Set).

Mumbai : When over 1.5 lakh volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) gathered in Marunji village, on the outskirts of Pune city, on January 3, history was in the making, since fourth and fifth generation descendants from Mahatma Phule’s family were also part of the RSS’ western Maharashtra unit meet.

Nitin Ranchandra Phule, a 48-year-old swayamsevak, is the fourth generation descendant of Mahatma Phule’s elder brother Rajaram. Phule family has been staying in the Old Ganj Peth area in eastern Pune since Mahatma Phule’s period. Rajaram Phule, the legendary social reformer Mahatma Phule’s elder brother, had his own wada (mansion) adjacent to Mahatma Phule’s mansion. Rajaram’s family stayed there till the both the mansions were merged to build Mahatma Phule national memorial.

Nitin told dna that RSS’ daily shakha – which was named after his great-great grandfather, Mahatma Phule Sayam – used to be organised near his house, and he was attending it since his school days. He also takes pride in motivating his 21-year-old son, Ritesh, to follow his footsteps and to attend the Shiv Shakti Sangam. Nitin’s cousin Dattatraya Pitambar Phule, who is working with the Pune municipal corporation, also attended the Shiv Shakti Sangam.

According to Nitin, it was the RSS that taught him ‘samarasata’ – meaning no caste discrimination or discrimination of any type. He said the RSS inculcated good values in him right since his childhood days and now his son Ritesh was also bowled over by the discipline and management of the RSS, after attending the event. “Ritesh, after attending the unification, told me that he would now spread the message among his friends and has also shared his photo, in which he dressed in full RSS attire, on WhatsApp,” said Nitin adding that Ritesh was so impressed that he has bought an entire new set of RSS uniform.

Nitin said he couldn’t attend the previous large gathering of swayamsevaks held in Pune in 1983 at Taljai Hills, and so was keen on attending Marunji meet. That his brother Dattatraya and son Ritesh also participated is a matter of pride. “That is the most important aspect of Sangha thought, which teaches social homogeneity,” he said.

showimg

Bengaluru January 17, 2016: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) expressed deep condolences on the demise of Poojaneeya Sri Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji (90years), Poojya Mathadipathi of the reputed Kashi Math Samsthan Guru Parampara. Sri Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji attained moksha on 17.01.2016 at Kashimath Haridwar at 1.10 am.

RSS Kshetreeya Sanghachalak V Nagaraj expressed deep condolences on demise of Poojaneeya Sri Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji. “Parama poojya Sri Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji was an eminent spiritual leader and his demise is a great loss to Hindu Society and humanity at large”, said V Nagaraj in his condolence message.

Srimad-Sudhindra-Theertha-Swamiji

Statement by RSS Akhil Bharatiya Sah Prachar Pramukh J Nandakumar:

“The Mahasamadhi of Srimad Sudheendra Tirtha Swamiji of Shree Kashi Math Samsthan, Varanasi, at Haridwar, has been a great loss to the Hindu society as a whole, and particularly to the Gowd Saraswath Community. During his pontificate of over seven decads, the swamiji had guided the community very efficiently, both in the spiritual and temporal matters. If the community, in spite of the ill-effects of globalisation, is holding steadfast to the time-old traditions and customs peculiar to it, the whole credit for it goes to His Holiness. The Swamiji’s stand vis-à-vis the Ram Temple issue, caste distinctions, etc., was very categorical and he was in favour of the construction of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya and was against any form of distinction and discrimination on the basis of caste. He was also highly supportive of every move to unite the Hindu society above all divisive tendencies.”

We place on record our deep sense of grief over the Mahasamadhi of His Holiness and pray to the almighty God to give enough strength to His disciple-community to bear the loss with equanimity and hold steadfast to the values dear to Him, and pay our respectful obeisance to His hallowed memory.

J Nandakumar,

RSS Akhil Bharatiya Sah Prachar Pramukh

About Swamiji:

Srimad Sudheendra Teertha swamiji, the present Mathadhipati of Shree Kashi Math Samsthan, is the twentieth Swamiji in the Guru Parampara. In the Poorvashram (before being initiated into sanyasa by the previous Swamiji), he was known as Shri Sadashiva Shenoy, son of Shri Ramadas Shenoy, a trustee of Shri Venkataramana Temple in Ernakulam. He was born at Ernakulam on 31st March, 1926. He completed his Pre-University education in Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam and selected Natural Science, Physics and Chemistry as his main subjects. From an early age he had shown inclination towards a religious life.

The noble traits of his character, his devotion to God, his desire to serve his fellow men, his honesty, his integrity and his love for Hindu Dharma were remarkable. When Shrimath Sukrateendra Thirtha Swamiji was camping at Ernakulam, this young boy attracted his attention. The Swamiji had the intuition to choose the right man and was divinely inspired to select this boy to be his fittest successor, later to head Shree Kashi Math Samsthan. The father’s consent was obtained for the transformation of the college student into a Sanyasi, eventually to lead a sizeable portion of Vaishnava Goud Saraswath Brahmin community in the righteous path of Vaishnava Dharma.

The Guru-Swami took him to Mulki and on Wednesday, 24th May 1944 (Karka Lagna, Jeshta Shuddha Dviteeya of Tarana Samvatsara, Shalivahana Shaka 1866) initiated him into Sanyas in the divine presence of Lord Sri Venkataramana, Sri Ugra Narasimha and Sri Bindu Madhava in Mulki (KA IN) and renamed him as Srimad Sudhindra Theertha, who then severed the family connections and took to his new duties earnestly and enthusiastically and led an austere life.

He felt the need of equipping himself with all the knowledge of the Dharma Shastras. He mastered Sanskrit at the Bhuvanendra Sanskrit College, Karkala near Mangaluru in Karnataka. The scholarly teachers of the college were appointed to impart the necessary education in Dharma Shastras. He was camping in Shrinivasa Ashrama in the College premises. In those days he was very fond of animals. There were many pets including a deer and a tiger cub in Shrinivasa Ashrama.

After taking the vow of celibacy in 1944 and preserving it since then, the Swamiji strives day in and day out for the welfare and uplift of the community as a whole. Endowed with excellent grasping power, wonderful memory and extraordinary intelligence and plenty of God’s grace and Guru’s blessings, he completed his study in a short time. The Brahma Sutra, The Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads (Prasthana Traya) and other works were studied in great detail. He became a great scholar in Dwaita philosophy, as propounded by Shri Madhvacharya. He learnt the methods of worshipping God according to Agama Shastra. He travelled with the Guru to various places and picked up his duties well. He sat at the feet of the Guru and learnt the traditions of Shree Kashi Math.

His Holiness had taken charge of the Samsthan in 1949 after the Mukti of his Guru Shrimath Sukrathindra Thirtha Swamiji in Kochi. He bore the loss of his Guru with courage and took over the reigns of the spiritual chariot of the followers of Shree Kashi Math Samsthan in his able hands and has been leading the chariot since then.

BEING HINDU2

Being Hindu:
Old Faith, New World and You (Penguin):

Endorsed by Bibek Debroy, S. Gurumurthy, Michel Danino, R. Vaidyanathan and Amish Tripathi, Being Hindu is the exploration of Hinduism in a way you have never seen before. One of the world’s oldest forms of faith, Hinduism has an unbroken trajectory of beliefs and rituals that have endured for many millennia through the footsteps of pilgrims and the pedagogies of theologists, through myth, science and politics. But what does all that mean to the modern Hindu today? How does the faith speak to those who profess to follow it? Away from the raucous debate around religions, this is the journey of a common Hindu, an attempt to understand why for so many Hindus their faith is one of the most powerful arguments for plurality, for unity in diversity and even more than the omnipresent power of God, the sublime courage and conviction of man.
