ABVP welcomes and supports IIT-Madras’s decision to de-recognize anti-social group

Chennai June 7: Recently, Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle, an ‘Independent Student Body’ was de-recognized by IIT Madras. De-recognition of the student body was due to non-following of the guidelines prescribed for an Institute student body.

Hue and cry generated by APSC’s views and controversial pamphlets and by the media claims the freedom of speech curbed. The pamphlets provoke divisive thoughts accusing IITM as ‘under brahminical tyranny’ and ‘fight towards liberating the mass from the clutches of Hinduism’.   Political parties started fishing in troubled waters to gain publicity from the internal matter of IITM.

Backing the decision of de-recognition of IIT M, ABVP National Secretary Shri Shreehari Borikar issued a press statement in Delhi.

Press Statement :
ABVP supports IIT-Madras’decision to de-recognize anti-social group:
Shreehari Borikar IIT Madras administration has taken steps to curb the ongoing antisocial activities of a student group named “Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle” by de-recognizing it meaning thereby that it will not be able to use the IIT symbol and name. ABVP welcomes this step of IIT administration. Unfortunately many media groups and political parties have misreported that, this student group has been banned, which is not true. This particular student group has been indulging in spreading social tensions through their verbal violence aimed at religious Hindus in an institute known for its academic excellence. This group has been targeting the faith and feelings of thousands of students in the campus and that is why they complained about its activities.
Educational institutions should not be used for anti-religion and anti-social propaganda. Not surprisingly, many anti-national, anti-Hindu organizations have opposed this move of the IIT. The Congress’ double speaks have also been exposed through this issue. I would like to ask three simple questions on this issue to Shri Rahul Gandhi:
1) Do you want to transform an excellent educational institute like IIT in to a center of political propaganda and fights?
2) Do you not believe in India’s Constitution written by Dr.Ambedkar? If you did you would not become spokesperson of these people whose are spreading social disharmony?
3) Is the meaning of ‘freedom of expression ‘limited to abusing a particular religion? By raising this particular issue, does Mr. Rahul Gandhi aim to spread tensions in Educational institutions?
ABVP condems the words and actions of Shri.Rahul Gandhi on this issue. He is playing in the hands of the communist propagandists who are mischievously playing the caste card on the issue to polarize the students.

Coimbatore June 7: The Hindu Munnani has called upon the Tamil Nadu Government to hand over the control of Hindu religious places of worship to independent trusts. The trusts must ensure that revenue generated from these places are solely utilised to develop the temples. It also demanded scrapping of ‘darshan’ fees in all temples.

This was among the 14 resolutions passed during the seventh state-level conference and centenary anniversary celebration of Thanulinga Nadar, one of the first Presidents of the organisation, here on Sunday.

It also passed resolutions that demanded legislation to prevent smuggling of cattle, condemned the demolishing of Hindu places of worship for road construction and sought making Tamil medium of education mandatory till Class V.

Addressing the conference, Hindu Munnani founder Ramagopalan paid homage to various Hindu leaders killed in Tamil Nadu. He said that Hindu leaders must always travel with company as a precautionary measure.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) joint general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said that a Ram Temple would be constructed in Ayodhya in another five years.

Meanwhile, the Madras High Court, in a special sitting on Sunday, granted permission to Hindu Munnani to take out a procession, just hours before it was scheduled to start. While permitting the conference, the Coimbatore City Police, had refused to allow the rally. It proceeded on a 2.5-km route starting near Tidel Park, proceeded through Karumbukadai before culminating at the ground near Codissia Trade Fair Complex, the conference venue. It began at 4.40 p.m., even as the Madras High Court ruling came at 3.45 p.m. Heavy security was posted along this route and various parts of the city.

RSS Akhil Bharatiya Vyavastha Pramukh Mangesh Bhende addressing

In his inaugural speech Mangesh Bhende said,” Bharat had a very good system of democracy since ancient times. We had judiciary system here in our villages. We had women judges at the village courts. Impartial judgement were delivered. Rural system was intertwined with mutual confidence and trust within the villagers, hence was known for peace and harmony”.
“We are not measuirng our society by economic strength. However, literature quotes that we had very rich Kingdoms in ancient times. Mahapadmananda had huge wealth at his time. Each individual was contributing so greatly for the wealth of the society.” said Mangesh Bhende.

“Unfortunately Villages is getting deserted, becoming vruddhashramas. Migration of youth from the village is a srious problem. All these happened due to wrong path we took for rural empowerment since Independence. The then Prime Minister Nehru’s theories and principles on development were coated with western mindset. To remain Bharat as Bharat each Individual should contribute for the society. Each villager should be proud and should have respect for his village. If there is a problem in the village, should try correct there itself.” said Mangesh Bhende.

Grama Sangama 2015 (3)

“There are several examples of individuals who contributed greatly for the upliftment of their village. Anna Hazare has set a great example for his contributions for the Raleganasiddhi in Maharashtra. The development of the village we call upon is not just economy oriented. There are socio-economic problems in society. We need to focus on eradicating such problems. To bring such a social tranformation, can we do the following?
1. Samajik Shiksha (promoting literacy)
2. Samajik Samskara. (Behaviour with others, members of house, other villagers, outsiders).
3. Samajik Samarasata. (Social Harmony)
4. Samajik Suraksha (Social Security)
Hence we have to try our best individualyl or as a team for the comprehensive betterment of the village.” urged Mangesh Bhende.

Bharat should remain Bharat: Dr Balasubramaiam

Dr Balasubramaniam addressing

Dr Balasubramaniam addressing

Addressing on the occasion, noted social worker Dr Balasubramaiam said ” Since Independence most of the governments ha spent huge amount of money for rural development. But a comprehensive rural development has not happened. Its due to wrong policies and incorrect approach in vision for the rural development. Bharat should remain Bharat. No need to equate or to become country like Singapore, as few of our politicians say. We need to introspect our plan on rural development”.

“One of my American student had once said that, This is the time to copy India and Indian models for America. India was economically leading the world for 16 centuries since AD. India gave importance not just for economy. Our priority was human resource and human capital.” said Dr Balasubramahiam.

“Need of the hour is making each individual socially aware. We need to focus on our Human Capital and Social Capital is essential. Economic Valuation of the society is not necessary. Ideals and teachings from great persons like Vivekananda ideals will help for such a development, by creating men with a social thinking. Each Indian should dedicate one year for the social cause, for upliftment of his own village” urged Dr Balasubramaniam.

The event was declared to be Organic, in which all vegetables, grains used for the Food were from Organic farmlands across Karnataka.  Even the cloth used for the Dhwaj (Flag)  was from Organically grown cotton, colours used were 100% natural. Organisers taken special care to make it eco-friendly and Plastic free.

Deoras known for his great leadership skills, who headed largest voluntary organisation RSS, at its tough times during anti-emergency movements (of 1975-78) and Ayodhya movement (of 1992), leading successfully after the demise of MS Golwalkar, who was the second Sarasanghachalak of RSS.

Madhukar Dattatraya Deoras  (December 11, 1915 – June 17, 1996), popularly known as Balasaheb Deoras, was the 3rd Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from 1973 till 1994, the largest Hindu nationalist organisation in World. Balasaheb first worked as a pracharak in Bengal and was then appointed as Karyavaha (Secretary) of the Nagpur City Unit. In 1946, he became the Sahsarkaryavaha (Joint General Secretary) and in 1965, the Sarkaryavaha (General Secretary) of RSS. On 5 June 1973, he became the Sarsanghchalak after the death of Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar.

About Balasaheb Deoras:

Balasaheb Deoras was born on 11 December 1915 in Nagpur to Dattatreya Krishnarao Deoras and Parvathibai. His family hailed from Andhra Pradesh but had settled in Nagpur and comprised two brothers and two sisters. His younger brother Bhaurao Deoras also became a senior pracharak of the RSS and helped make some Congressmen —usually antagonistic to RSS— closer to it. The family was greatly interested in farming and the young Balasaheb was inclined to this practice as well. This may have prodded him to join RSS and weed out the prevalent social and political evils.

He was educated in New English High School and matriculated from Berar Board of Secondary Education of the Central Provinces in 1931. Then, Balasaheb graduated from Moris College (now Nagpur Mahavidyalaya) in 1935 and obtained his LLB degree in College of Law, Nagpur University. Inspired by Dr. Hedgewar, he was associated with the RSS since its inception. Deciding to dedicate his life to the goals of RSS, he neither practiced law nor married and became a pracharak (full-time worker) of the RSS.

Balasaheb’s assuming charge of the Sangh happened to be under trying circumstances. Within just a couple of years of his stewardship of the Sangh, Smt.Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency and started a crackdown on the Opposition. The RSS was banned and Balasaheb, along with thousands of fellow swayamsevaks was arrested and detained for two years. Many leaders, including Jayaprakash Narayan felt that the dark night of internal slavery would never end and that the country would never be able to see the dawn of freedom and democracy in their lifetime but Balasaheb didnot give up. The inspiring saga of how the entire Sangh brotherhood rose to the occasion staking their all reflected a spirit of martyrdom. The most crucial and dominant role they played in the successful anti-Emergency struggle forms a unique and unparalleled page in the annals of peaceful democratic revolutions in the world.

The Sangh leadership also set up yet another record in refusing to be tempted by power in the post-Emergency era. Swayamsevaks stood true to the Hindus vision of an ideal social set-up in which there would be millions of workers who would keep themselves aloof from every kind of material inducement and rewards-power, pelf or even name and fame- solely dedicated to the cause of all round national rejuvenation.

Gifted with a profoundly critical intellect, Balasaheb gave a much-needed fillip to the process of a direct dialogue with workers at different levels. He himself would sit for long hours seeking answers to a number of doubts arising in the minds of Swayamsevaks. This two-way intellectual feedback proved very useful in firming up the conviction of the rank and file of the Sangh Parivar. Such an organisational direction was particularly needed in view of the fast-changing intellectual agenda at the national level, with the phenomenal rise of Hindu awareness and Hindutva coming up to centre stage.

Balasaheb continued as Sarsanghachalak till 1994 when he stepped down due to ill health — leaving behind a shining legacy and paving the way for Rajendra Singh to replace him. Declining health eventually resulted in his death on 17 June 1996.

Coming from an orthodox family, Deoras’ reading and interpretation of Hindu scriptures convinced him that none of them sanctioned untouchability— a gruesome social practice of mistreating a particular section of population. He even persuaded his orthodox mother of this truth so much so that she is even said to have washed plates of the untouchables (or Harijans, the children of God) with whom the young Deoras would often dine at his home.

A year after becoming the Sarsanghchalak in 1973, Deoras even went on to declare that “If untouchability is not wrong, nothing in the world is wrong” – in the spirit of Abraham Lincoln who thundered: “If slavery is not wrong, nothing in the world is wrong.” This 1974 mantra has resounded among millions of swayamsevaks ever since— with many of them embracing the Harijans, trying to help them in their struggle, especially in times of despair. “It’s our national duty to have the barriers of caste, region, language among the Hindus eradicated,” Deoras would often say.

Though Deoras formulated the Sangh’s response in support of the V.P. Singh government’s reservation policy in 1990, it was more out of social compulsions. He did make a few characteristic fiery speeches and silenced hostile voices, which claimed reservation would drive merit to the backseat and that society could not afford to have bad doctors and bad professionals. “This society can afford to have bad doctors for some years, but it cannot afford to break. Think for a while and tell me what would have been your response if you belonged to the deprived caste,” Deoras asked.

The Sangh’s decision to support the Mandal Commission Report and to have the foundation stone of the proposed Ram temple at Ayodhya laid by a Harijan in November 1989 was part of a larger campaign. The pro-Reservation stance and the Ram-plank confirmed the sincerity of the Sangh towards man making and thus, nation building. Consolidating Hindu society as a functioning cohesive plurality was the goal of the Sangh.

Breaking tradition, an ailing Deoras announced that Prof. Rajendra Singh, his associate for years, would succeed him on 11 March 1994. This was the first time in RSS that the Sarsanghachalak announced a successor when alive, giving up the practice of a ‘will’ being made public posthumously like his predecessors did.

Deoras wrote in both English and Hindi. Some of books he authored:
  • Punjab, problem and its solution (1984)
  • Social equality and Hindu consolidation (1974)
  • Hindu sangathana aura sattavadi rajaniti (1997)
  • Sri Balasaheb Deoras answers questions (1984)
  • Rouse: The power of good (1975)

Deoras echoed Savarkar by stating: “We do believe in the one-culture and one-nation Hindu rashtra. But our definition of Hindu is not limited to any particular kind of faith. Our definition of Hindu includes those who believe in the one-culture and one-nation theory of this country. They can all form part of the Hindu-rashtra. So by Hindu we do not mean any particular type of faith. We use the word Hindu in a broader sense.” According to Deoras, even though Mahatma Gandhi appeased Muslims, the Muslims never accepted him as one of their own.
In 1973, Deoras denounced the practice of untouchability and appealed to the RSS volunteers to work towards its removal from the Hindu society. The RSS has set up many programs under Seva Bharati, an organization devoted to uplifting the members of scheduled castes. Under it, RSS volunteers have started schools in which they offer vocational courses for slum dwellers and former untouchables while teaching them the virtues of Hinduism. Deoras declared: “If untouchability is not wrong, nothing in the world is wrong.” He said on November 9, 1985, that the main purpose of the RSS is Hindu unity and that the organization believes all citizens of India should have a ‘Hindu culture’.

A brainchild of Deoras, the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch was vocal in its defense of swadeshi. Founded in 1993, it was conceived as a protectionist bulwark against economic liberalization by the Congress government of P.V. Narasimha Rao in 1991.

Despite being maligned by the government and the left leaning main stream Indian media, RSS under Deoras grew fast — it has about 30,000 shakhas, each attended every day by 40-50 volunteers. It also has a sizable presence in slums, Harijan bastis and communities in about 25,000 of the 67,000 tribal villages. Besides, Deoras involved his volunteers in the field of education under the aegis of Vidhya Bharati, and also floated Seva Bharati, a missionary outfit to serve the downtrodden and tribals and to counter the covert evangelical activities of the Christian missionaries.
